What is a QR Code?

A QR Code looks like this:

QR Codes originated in Japan where they are very common and are
becoming more popular in the West through advertising campaigns.

QR stands for Quick Response (they can be read quickly by a smart phone).

They are used to take a piece of information from a transitory media and put it in to your mobile/cell phone. You might have seen QR Codes in a magazine advert, on a billboard, a web page or even on someone’s t-shirt. Once it is in your mobile phone, it may give you location details about that business (allowing users to search for nearby locations), or special offers or coupons from that business, or link you to a URL which you can click to watch a video for that business.

The reason why they are more useful than a standard barcode is that they can store (and digitally present) much more data, including url links, geo coordinates, and text. The other key feature of QR Codes is that instead of requiring a chunky hand-held scanner to scan them, most smart phones can scan them, you just need to download a QR Code reader such as QR Droid.

If you were not aware of QR Codes before you will now find them all over the place, in newspaper stories, in magazines adverts, on TV screens, on posters and in shop windows.  In the UK we are only just scratching the surface of how they will be used. How does Google see QR Codes?

If you add them to your website, the search engines will see that your pages have changed, and that you are updating pages. The search engine will see a new image and index it accordingly. At some point soon, the search engines will likely recognize QR codes and possibly index the content in them.

Will your customers use them?

Today, more and more people are using them as they are becoming more familiar and users are more comfortable with the technology available to them through using their own Smart Phones.  Customers will certainly appreciate your technical knowledge if you use them, and those that don’t already know about them will certainly be inquisitive, which may open the door for conversation and a potential sale. Those that do use QR codes will definitely have a high tech know-how and may be more receptive to your presence on the web, your Twitter presence, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube etc.

How could you use a QR code?

Your business, no matter how small or large, could use QR codes in a number of ways. You might auto generate one next to every product on your web site containing all the product details, the number to call and the URL link to the page so they can show their friends on their cell phone. You could add one to your business card containing your contact details so its easy for someone to add you to their contacts to their mobile phone.

Add them to any print advertising, flyers, posters, invites, TV ads etc containing:

• Contact details
• Offer details
• Event details
• Competition details
• A coupon
• Twitter, Facebook, MySpace IDs
• A link to your YouTube video

Yes, it does sound like a cheap internet game but if that’s what’s worrying you on your wedding day, chances are you could churn out a pretty hot baby and that might help you look forward to getting married more!!?

Wedding Speeches for Best Man

This one is more a precautionary app more than anything. You may not actually have a best man but yes, your best friend might do a toast at your wedding. You might want to make sure it’s tasteful and not giving away the nights of drunken debauchery you’ve had together. Wedding Speeches for Best Man will take care of you. The description says that the speeches will leave the audience laughing, crying and ‘remembering what they love so much about the groom’.

We produced this photo montage for the clients wedding reception based on their favourite movie – the award winning Dney Pixar animated film of the year ‘UP’.

The clients wanted to share their most treasured memories with their family and wedding guests in the style of thier favourite film. We created a book of memories similar to the one in the movie and incorporated photographs of their travels together.

The clients staged the perfect entrance to their wedding reception… the closing scenes of the montage include the new bride and groom flying through the sky holding onto a bunch of balloons landing outside their wedding reception venue with swirls of clouds surrounding them. At the actual venue the couple used a smoke machine to recreate the cloud effects which they pumped in through the door thet were entering the reception room through to the amazement and delight of their wedding guests.

This is a montage you have to watch. A lovely couple. We loved creating this montage for them.
